In discussing geomicrobial processes, I have tended to emphasize the physiological more than the geological aspects. This is in part because the former is my own area of greater expertise, but also, and more importantly, because I feel that the physiological and biochemical nature of geomicrobial processes has to be understood to fully appreciate why some microbes are capable of these activities.
